NEW WOMEN'S ADDICTION SUPPORT!!
At the Greenhouse Project, we are on a mission to help people grow in difficult places. What that difficult place looks like varies from person to person. One individual’s difficult place might be a physical address or zip code, while another’s could be addiction.
Addiction can start as a choice, but quickly turns into a family disease. It destroys the lives of many people and oftentimes the lives of their loved ones as well. In 2018, the United States had more than 67,300 individuals die of a drug overdose. In Pennsylvania alone, 91 people die everyday to opioid related deaths. Our county, cities, and state are in a drug epidemic.
Greenhouse Project has been working to combat this problem from the beginning. We offer counseling and coaching to both individuals in active addiction and those in recovery. In addition, we seek to support their family members. Just today I received a message that a man I'm currently coaching had overdosed; thank God he is still alive!
COVID-19 has prompted more people than ever to seek help for substance abuse issues. In the past, Greenhouse was only able to offer men’s recovery and family coaching. Now, with the addition of Alex Delgatto, we are able to support women as well. Alex has a heart for people who are hurting. The addiction epidemic in our nation strikes close to home for her since both her and her husband are in recovery.
Alex has two years experience working in the behavioral health field and is currently working on her master’s degree in social work. She is both a Certified Recovery Specialist and Certified Peer Specialist, which means that she is trained and certified by the state of Pennsylvania to use her lived experience in addiction and mental illness to help others. One of Alex’s favorite quotes is from Marcus Tullius Cicero, who said “Not for ourselves alone are we born.”
We are designed for human interaction. Studies have shown that isolation can increase high-risk behaviors, such as substance use. In a time where social distancing and isolation is pushed for our physical health, we may find our mental health to be suffering. Only pointing people to God and caring for them as family can help start a path of freedom from addiction. If you or anyone you know is in need of support, encouragement, or counseling, please reach out to us at Greenhouse Project.
When you think about real life change in urban areas like Chester, think about the Greenhouse Project. We exist to help people grow in difficult places.
Since December Greenhouse Project has supported 33 people with addiction challenges. That's more than 100 hours of free counseling and coaching. Please use your voice to share Greenhouse Project contact information to help those in addiction or families that have loved ones in addiction. Contact 610.874.2753 or info@ghproject.org for support.
Our services are completely free, relying on partners for support financially. We are able to help more people break free from addiction because of monthly partnership. Every one time or monthly gift of $50, $100, or $250 helps us serve those struggling with addiction. Thank you!
