Fall Programs - Support & Serve!

As F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”

For Greenhouse Project, that means that our full schedule of events and outreach are back again. As we go into our 4th Year of Homework Club, we want to highlight that program as well as make you aware of our regular schedule of programs for the Fall season.

Keep reading to learn more about each event and the different ways God has made us able to impact our community!

Our 4th year of Homework Club began this past Wednesday on September 25th, and we had a great time seeing all our favorite kids again as well as some new faces! Homework Club is every Wednesday during the school year from 3:30 - 5:30pm. This club is for 1st — 5th graders on our block.

What does our club look like?

A high energy group of many new believers. Teachers and volunteers arrive at 3:30 to set up and pray. The kids arrive at 4 and stay for an hour and a half. If the kids have any homework we help tutor them with that, while also providing a snack, educational lessons, and games!

Why do we feel this club is so important?

Pastor Donny Martin, who co-leads Homework Club with his wife Rachelle, says that, “We’re trying to build off of what God has been doing over the summer with some of these kids. Summer camp was a big sticking point there for us and the kids. There were 6 kids who gave their lives to Jesus and 9 kids who got baptized. We feel like the Holy Spirit is doing work in some of these kids”.

Pastor Donny goes on to talk about how being consistent in these kid’s lives is very important, “We’ve seen some hard hearts, when we first started Homework Club it was a lot of us stopping fights. But it’s amazing to see what God has done.

The word of God, the consistency, and showing up in their life. The consistency of love and discipline is enough to affect their life. We’re just seeing them change by being consistent in their lives and showing up, teaching them the same things and showing them the Word. Showing them the love of Jesus. We’re just seeing God work with that. I think the Holy Spirit is moving there so I'm really focusing more of my attention on it. It’s like your foot in the door to affect the whole family”.

Many of the kids have gotten into better schools since starting to attend Homework Club, because their hearts and focuses have changed, as well as the people they surround themselves with. Pastor Donny said that, “they’re getting connected with hope for the future, but they’re also getting connected with the love of God and the truth of His Word. We are always seeing God’s transformation in our students”.

Pastor Donny’s heart for Homework Club is truly in staying consistent in these kid’s lives and showing up for them outside of club. “Just showing up for them, we go to their plays and sporting events. We’ve developed relationships with some of their families. Just showing up, giving them the Word of God, and helping them with discipline. Showing up is enough to do something in their life, to have a transformative effect

This year in Homework Club, there's a Financial Literacy For Kids that the Greenhouse Project treasurer comes out to teach them. They’re also going through the Gospels this year! Their goal is to eventually expand Homework Club to the other side, so that they can reach more kids. To do that, they need more volunteers, ones who have the same vision and passion for Homework Club!

Prayer Requests for Homework Club

  • For Discipleship Mentors

  • For more kids to attend

  • Provision for materials/programs

  • Some kids become Student Leaders when they get into high school, so we ask that the Lord would do work in their lives in the next year or two that would help them mature enough to do that when the time comes.

  • That the Lord would keep them from the lifestyle that is on the streets that they come from as they’re becoming teenagers.

Come Join Us!

As you can see, Fall is a busy time for us, and that’s just how we like it! We are here to help people grow in difficult places and these are the doors that God has opened for us to serve and build relationships with those around us. People here need many different kinds of care but the most important need they have is Jesus Christ. That is why we are here - to share the gospel.

We are able to offer these things to the community because of you. Thank you for your prayers, volunteering your time, and for your financial support. God is using your gifts to help us to further His work in Chester, and we couldn't be more grateful!
