More Than a Clean-up: A Community United
“I wish our streets were clean like Swarthmore or Springfield.”
Back in 2020, during one of our door-to-door visits for prayer and connection, a neighbor voiced this simple wish that resonated with us all. That wish sparked a powerful idea—why not be the champions of the changes we wanted to see in our own neighborhood?
What began as a simple question has blossomed into a movement that’s cleaning our streets, uplifting our neighbors, and inspiring change.
Our first community cleanup took place in October 2020, and it was nothing short of transformative.
Together, we cleared over 7,800 pounds of trash from our streets, revealing the hidden beauty beneath and igniting a passion for community action. Now, just a few years later, that passion has grown exponentially!
This October 19th, on our sixth wedding anniversary, Emily and I celebrated not only our love but also the dedication of over 30 volunteers who joined us in our latest cleanup. This community-driven effort has become so much more than a beautification project; it’s become a true celebration of community spirit.
From borrowed brooms and rakes to a pick-up truck hauling bulk waste, each cleanup sees our neighbors come alive with purpose. Together, we cut grass, swept sidewalks, edged overgrown pathways, and in doing so, cultivated pride in a mutual care for our shared space, unity, and new relationships.
Reflecting on how much has changed since 2020 fills us with hope.
Last year alone, thanks to countless helping hands, we removed more than 34,000 pounds of trash from our neighborhood, and we’re only gaining momentum!
Now, we invite you to join us.
Whether through volunteer hours, sharing our story, or simply offering words of encouragement, every little bit helps. Together, we can bring this vision of a cleaner, greener community to life. Let’s continue transforming our streets—and our community—for the better.
