Gospel Truth & Real Hope Goes Forth into Two ‘Hoods
It’s not lost on us how significant a small piece of time and attention is to someone’s story.
Oftentimes, a simple disruption of the mundane or an interaction that brings humanity back into our ‘normal’ patterns can change things up in a big way.
I’ll never forget the first Prayer and Evangelism outreach we did a couple years ago when a neighbor sent Emily and me this text:
”I’ve lived in this community for over 15 years and no one has ever come to my door to pray or help until you showed up. Thank you.” 🥺
We love to be a steady source of gospel truth for neighbors both familiar and new by how we show up for them in the mundane and seemingly small areas of daily life in our rough, unpredictable neighborhoods.
With courage and boldness, our monthly Prayer & Evangelism outreach takes us out of our comfort zone, and into a space of faith with forward motion as we meet neighbors and seek to pray with them.
We actively connect by knocking on doors in small groups.
Not every neighbor opening a door is happy or positive, but showing up matters.
Our teams encourage, make conversation, and take time to share Jesus as we invite them to participate in our ministry if they need support.
Most people are receptive and open.
Some think we’re weird (to be expected…😆).
Reflecting back, this Prayer & Evangelism has built so many friendships with people God loves. Sometimes this outreach has paved the way to big asks or the opportunity to be there for families during really hard times.
Neighbors not only learn about how we can help them, but they hear about Jesus – often for the first time.
We have hundreds of ‘God Stories’ from our Prayer & Evangelism!
We also see great fruit from this outreach, as one neighbor recently asked, “Hey Pastor John, have you noticed it has been quieter than usual?”
Now, this is where you come in:
Prayer & Evangelism outreach is expanding into two neighborhoods to serve several blocks around 44House and 912House (Donny & Rachelle Martin’s ministry house located in Chester’s west side).
If you’ve tracked with us, the neighborhood surrounding 912House is new territory; we’ve been prayerfully waiting to meet more neighbors here!
Will you take a bold step of courage to help us minister at an upcoming Prayer & Evangelism outreach?
