New Chester Community Partnership

Greenhouse Project is excited to announce the official start of a community collaboration with Paramount Recovery House, and, in only a way God could orchestrate, they are just two doors down from us!

James Salvey, Director of Operations for Paramount Recovery House, has been a friend and colleague since 2009. Over the course of 8-9 years, James went through the long term recovery program at Cityteam five times while I was on staff. He was always struggling between using and being clean.

James' story is remarkably close to mine: years of addiction destroyed relationships with family and loved ones, and he almost lost his life to multiple drug overdoses. His addiction drove him to become homeless on the streets of Kenzington, and he served time in prison. At one point I thought James was a hopeless case.

But then something changed during his last time in treatment. He had a deep change of heart. Of his breakthrough, James says, “I was always on the go, bouncing from one thing to the next, but this time my sponsor made sure I slowed down, waited, and did real step work. For once I actually lived an honest life and completed the program. I invested into my life, instead of destroying it. Now I trust God to do the rest.” Motivated by sobriety and healing, James and his dad started Paramount House to help people find freedom.

So what is Paramount House? Paramount Recovery House is a home-based recovery service striving to help struggling addicts obtain and maintain sobriety. Their approach is designed to help residents find lasting sobriety and true freedom from addiction by addressing all aspects of the root causes, knowing addictions are merely symptoms of deeper issues. Their location next to Greenhouse Project provides men with a structured living environment conducive to sobriety. A Paramount Recovery House for women is opening soon in Chester.

If you know anyone needing a recovery house, learn more on their Facebook page or call (484)-994-1217 to connect with their staff.

Greenhouse Project has committed to giving FREE one-on-one recovery counseling and coaching to all Paramount Recovery House residents, including the new women’s house. Greenhouse Project also provides services to families that have been affected by those in recovery. We believe that healing is not only important for the recovering addict but also for the family of the addict to help create healthy relationships.

It's an honor serving with James and the men of Paramount House. Not only do we have a really strong partnership, but we are neighbors which allows us to do life together, share meals, and get a full picture of what's going on. Through hosting Sunday Fellowship at our house, we also introduce the Gospel to these men, some of whom received a Bible for the first time.

Connecting with James is always special. Watching him use his gifts to serve other people is a reminder that God redeems brokenness and can bring new life to any story. None of my time was wasted with James over two years. To see what he does and to hear the things he says brings me joy!

In 2018, Delaware County had 590 reported drug overdose deaths. This equates to 35 people per month who are losing their lives to drug addiction. In Pennsylvania alone, 91 people die every day to opioid related deaths. Our county, cities, and state are in a drug epidemic.

So far in 2020, Greenhouse Project has supported over 40 people with recovery coaching and counseling totaling over 210 hours of free addiction support. Greenhouse services are completely free, relying on partners to volunteer and support financially.

When you think of real family and community change, think about the Greenhouse Project. Because of One-Time and Monthly donations from people like you we are able to help serve, connect and grow real life change in urban communities. Collaboration is a team effort. Join the team and give today, every penny makes a difference.

Thank you so much!
